As you all know, on your birthday lots of people call you to wish you well. Yesterday a friend from India called and we chatted for a bit. He's not a big reader so he doesn't really bother to read my blog much, but apparently he tells his friends about it. Anyway, yesterday he informed me that my biggest fan (I have a biggest fan, who knew!) works with his girlfriend in Bangalore.
This all seems pretty suspicious to me since this mystery fan has never actually commented on any of my posts AND my statcounter doesn't list anyone from India, let alone someone from Karnataka.
(ok, I know the statcounter isn't infallible, but still)
Honestly, I think my friend is pulling my leg.
There's only one person who can prove me wrong...
So, mystery fan, if you're out there, comment on this post. While you're here, you might as well give me a list of your five favorite books. To prove that you are who you say you are, you'll need to tell me the names of your officemate and her boyfriend. ;)
Well, I'd tell you I'm jealous, but I've got a mystery person of my own showing up on my hit counter, and no clue who he/she is.
ReplyDeleteMystery fans are the best, I think. Loyal and engaged in what we do -- and hopefully quietly spreading the word to everyone within shouting distance.
Needless to say, I'm curious how this'll turn out...
Love this post and I agree with Susan, mystery fans are the best! I have a couple and both have been with me almost from the time I started my blog - I have no clue who they are ( I do know where they come from, ofcourse) but I'm beginning to think I enjoy having their identities remain a mystery! ;)
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to tell us if you ever identify your mystery fan!
Oh, mystery fan, I hope I haven't upset you too much. :(
ReplyDeleteI just thought it would be interesting to hear from you about the books you like since we are supposed to have very similar taste in books.
Actually, in all honesty, I didn't think you'd respond because I was convinced that Vivek made the whole thing up to tease me (especially since he thinks I spend way too much time reading and not enough time having a life).
Please forgive me for putting you on the spot. I promise I won't do it ever again.
That being said, it is very nice to see you commenting and I hope that you'll post again at some point.
Mystery Fan, you have some VERY heavy tastes. I don't know if I should envy you or go running in the other direction, screaming in horror...
ReplyDeleteOk, vn, definitely an impressive (and intimidating!) list.
ReplyDeleteAs you've all probably noticed, I tend to gravitate toward fiction. I read Plato, Kant, and St. Augustine (as well as some more of heavy philosophical stuff you mentioned) in college and haven't picked them up again since.
I haven't read 'With Borges' as yet, but it's on my list of books to read at some point.
I've heard that Grossman's translation of 'Don Quixote' is fabulous and it's another one of those books on my I-should-read list. Is it as amazing as everyone says it is?
Hey K,
ReplyDeleteI just realised you have made a damaging statement about me. For your kind information, I have read every issue of TOP Gear, Sports Illustrated and Cosmopolitan this year and I plan to add another two colourful picture magazine to my list next year......So I would greatly appreciate if you did not discount my reading abilities, with statements such as "doesn't read much".
Yours Eruditely,
V

ReplyDeleteLoving this "conversation"! Glad you know who your mystery fan is, Karen!
